Your Next Fix: Chartering Manager at Navi Merchants
… but more than just fixing ships – we’re as always building something long-term
Help shape the future of short-sea shipping across Denmark, the Baltics, and wider Europe
At Navi Merchants, part of the Copenhagen Merchants Group, we’re expanding our commercial presence in the Coaster segment — and we’re looking for a new colleague to join our growing team in Copenhagen.
We're not just adding talent and experience - we’re also welcoming a brand-new fleet of modern, future-ready vessels with cutting-edge sustainability features. You’ll play a central role in unlocking their commercial potential, helping us position Navi Merchants even stronger in and around Denmark, the Baltics, and the rest of Europe (you can read more about our coming new vessels at our website).
Your Purpose
As our new Chartering Manager, your mission is to help grow our cargo book and client base, while ensuring smart commercial use of both our existing tonnage and our incoming eco-friendly vessels.
You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues and gain direct access to market insights, decision-making, and opportunities to shape the direction of our business in this dynamic, special and competitive segment.
Your everyday impact
You’ll play an active role in shaping our presence in the coaster market – both through daily chartering and long-term relationship building. While we don’t operate with traditional KPI’s, your success will be reflected in your ability to:
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships resulting in repeat (contracted) business
- Secure new and long-term CoA’s and project/break bulk opportunities
- Ensure high utilization and performance of the fleet – through both optimization and proactive commercial trading.
- Identify and pursue relevant tender business – including calculating and submitting competitive offers.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Fixing of coasters (including TC vessels and Navi’s upcoming own fleet)
- Monitoring market trends and identifying new cargo flows and client needs
- Developing the cargo book across Denmark, Scandinavia, the Baltics, and the rest of Europe
- Exploring suitable period tonnage and negotiating charter party terms
- Supporting voyage planning and commercial optimization with operations.
- Collaborating closely with our in-house grain brokers, operations and our wider group network
- Travelling regularly to meet clients and explore opportunities across the region
Who You Are
- 3–5 years+ of experience in dry bulk and/or project cargo chartering
- Strong commercial instincts and a good understanding of logistics and the coaster segment
- Comfortable with clients and negotiations - in person and over the phone
- Curious, self-driven and ready to take initiative
- Structured, reliable, and solution-oriented
- Fluent in English - and preferably Danish since you will be based in our Copenhagen office
- Familiarity with IMOS/Veson or similar platforms is a plus (SEDNA/Shipfix/remark/PowerBI/etc.)
What We Offer
- A front-row seat in a growing, international shipping company
- Responsibility from day one - and room to shape your own role
- Access to market-leading tools and one of the most experienced and extensive networks in Northern Europe
- A flat structure, fast decisions, and a pragmatic, people-focused culture
- A company where summer means shorts in the office - and ambition means opportunity
You’ll be working from our HQ in Copenhagen (Nordhavn) with direct access to colleagues across Chartering, Operations, and CM’s global network.
Interested?
We’ve teamed up with Heidrick & Struggles to run (almost) the full process – so even though you apply through our website, all initial correspondence will be with their team.
They’ll make sure the right Octo-profiles move forward – and that everyone hears back (even if it’s a no). If things progress, you’ll meet the team at Navi Merchants soon after.
Apply by uploading your CV and feel free to add a short motivation or video introduction (max. 1 minute).
For questions, feel free to reach out to: Janus Skræp Christiansen, Senior Associate, Heidrick & Struggles, +45 2349 9534
P.S.
We’re heading into summer mode, so don’t be surprised if there’s a bit of radio silence around weeks 29–31. But rest assured: we’ll get back to you as soon as we’re back at full steam – sunburnt, maybe, but ready.
