Chartering Manager // Freight Trader
Trade. Timing. Teamwork
About the role
Navi Merchants is entering an exciting new phase – with new leadership, new eco-friendly vessels coming in, fresh energy, and continued growth – also across our deep-sea activities
We’re now looking for an experienced Chartering Manager / Freight Trader to help shape that next Deep Sea chapter (‘Deep Sea’, this is what we call vessels of 20,000+ dwt).
You’ll take responsibility for fixtures, negotiations, and voyage results across a range of dry cargo trades – working closely with colleagues, our sister companies and partners within Copenhagen Merchants Group.
It’s a hands-on role with real impact, where understanding the various parts of the value chain, good judgment, commercial drive, and collaboration make the difference.
Your focus
- Provide daily freight rate guidance to internal and external grain/agri-clients – with the aim of driving firm sales and building a trading book on the back of it
- Charter in vessels, trade speculatively, and manage freight arbitrage positions
- Monitor markets for commercially viable opportunities and shifting freight dynamics
- Gather and analyse market intelligence from brokers, owners, and other sources to assess and project freight levels accurately
- Share insights on grain and bulk flows, competitor activity, and supplier movements with the team where relevant
- Build and maintain strong relationships with charterers, owners, and brokers
- Optimize vessel choice, performance and voyage results in close collaboration with Operations and other stakeholders
- Balance spot and period exposure based on market outlook and risk appetite
- Identify and develop new trade routes, clients, and partnerships
- Contribute to ensuring CM Navigator reflects the best and most up-to-date market data.
- Contribute actively to Navi’s commercial development and long-term growth
Who you are
You’re an experienced dry bulk chartering professional with a solid grasp of markets, cargo flows, and tonnage dynamics. You know how to turn insight into fixtures - and you enjoy the pace, precision, and problem-solving that comes with the job.
- 5’ish+ years of chartering experience (spot and/or period)
- Strong network across the dry bulk market
- Sound understanding of voyage economics, laytime, and C/P terms
- Proficient in IMOS/VIP and MS Office
- Fluent in English & Danish
- Curious to smaller vessels despite being uncharted territory
- References will characterize you as a team-player
- You know who our new CEO is! (starts 1st of January 2026)
What we offer
You’ll join an independent and fast-moving company within Copenhagen Merchants Group – combining entrepreneurial energy with the strength of an established group.
Expect a flat structure, direct access to decisions, super nice colleagues and a culture that values performance, initiative, and a good laugh.
We’re based in Nordhavn – close to the water, close to the work, and (literally) close to vessels.
Shorts are fine in summer.
