Financial Controller
A Financial Controller role where you own the reporting — and help make the numbers more useful to the business.
Some finance roles are mostly about reporting what happened.
This one is also about understanding why it happened – and making the reporting better, faster and more useful next time.
We are looking for a Financial Controller who wants real ownership of consolidated reporting, financial analysis and selected annual reporting tasks across the Group. Someone who enjoys structure, deadlines and detail, but who is also curious enough to ask why the numbers move – not just whether they reconcile.
Good reporting is not only about closing the month. It is about understanding the commercial and operational reality behind the figures – and explaining it in a way that helps others make better decisions.
Your focus
You will help make our finance processes smarter – and ideally less dependent on heroic Excel maneuver's. We use Konsolidator, D365FO and Business Central, and we want to reduce manual work where it makes sense.
You will have access to Co-pilot in our own environment, and we are open to reasonable and pragmatic use of other LLM tools. Not because every process needs automation or AI. But because some of them probably deserve better than another manual workaround.
You will take ownership of monthly consolidated reporting and help ensure that reporting is accurate, timely and understandable for business unit leaders, owners and boards.
You will work with variance analysis, reporting quality and financial insight – not just producing numbers, but helping explain what they mean in clear and practical language.
You will support budgeting, forecasting and selected annual reporting tasks, including Danish GAAP, relevant ESG requirements and the short-term priority of moving to EUR-based accounts.
Your first priorities
To be very concrete, success in the first 9–12 months will be to:
Improve tools, data quality and process flow especially around Konsolidator, D365FO, Business Central and pragmatic use of automation and AI.
Take ownership of monthly Group reporting, ensuring consolidated reporting and related analysis are delivered at a consistently high standard.
Help strengthen the monthly close supporting the ambition of delivering group reporting within 10 working days after month-end.
Make reporting clearer and more useful so business leads, owners and boards can understand performance without needing a finance dictionary next to them.
Improve consistency across entities helping create a more structured and reliable reporting flow across the Group.
Support key annual reporting priorities including Danish GAAP, relevant ESG requirements and the move to EUR-based accounts.
In other words: Help make finance output sharper, faster and more useful to the business – without making the process heavier or more complex than it needs to be.
How do we fit with you – and you with us?
The most important thing is not only what you have done before. It is also whether you will thrive with the way we work.
You should enjoy recurring deliverables, deadlines and details – but also a business where the day does not always follow the plan you had when leaving home in the morning.
You probably have a solid foundation in financial controlling, consolidation and reporting. You may come from a Financial Controller, Group Reporting, Business Controller or audit background. A Big Four background can be relevant – but only if you genuinely want to move into an operational finance role with recurring ownership, close collaboration and practical follow-through.
You take pride in getting things right. But you are not only here to tick boxes.
You bring structure, curiosity and reliability. You communicate clearly, work well with others, and you are motivated by improving processes rather than simply maintaining them – while staying curious enough to understand why the numbers move, not just whether they reconcile.
Experience from shipping, logistics, commodities or similar environments would be relevant – but motivation for controlling, reporting, business understanding and continuous improvement matters most.
You speak and write both Danish and English at a professional level. The Group language is English, but Danish is important in the role – particularly in relation to annual reporting, Danish accounting standards and internal collaboration.
What you can expect
You will be part of a finance team where things are moving.
The Group operates across multiple companies, countries and business areas – from established core businesses to newer ventures. That means consolidation and reporting are not always simple. On the upside, you will not have to invent complexity just to stay entertained.
You will work closely with the Finance Manager and colleagues across finance and the business. We have a flat organizational structure, short decision paths and a clear preference for people who take responsibility instead of waiting to be asked twice.
We work closely together – quite literally. We all sit in an open office, and while flexibility exists when needed, we believe this business is best understood from close range. It is hard to get truly close to the business, the people and the decisions from a distance. For us, being here is not about policy. It is part of being a Merchanteer.
And yes, our culture ambassador is an octopus - and the name is T.W. Heart.
What are the downsides?
We are probably not the right place if you need a very predictable workday, a private office and perfectly designed processes waiting for you.
We are improving, building and occasionally discovering that the process we thought was “temporary” has somehow become part of daily life.
That is also why we need someone like you.
What we offer
This is an attractive role if you are looking to take on more ownership than many larger companies would typically offer at this stage of your career.
You will work close to consolidated reporting, annual reporting, systems, process improvements and a broad Group structure where finance genuinely plays a role in decision-making. You will have the opportunity to improve what works, challenge what does not, and help build stronger reporting practices across a complex organisation.
Your daily work will take place in bright, renovated warehouse offices in Nordhavn, Copenhagen – close to the metro, with views of the Mastekranen, the harbour entrance and the Opera. You will be part of an environment with around 70 colleagues across five of the Group’s companies, where it is a good place to be – professionally as well as personally.
And yes, Halima still makes sure there are fresh cinnamon buns or peeled carrots – and during summer, you will not be the only one wearing shorts. People take the work seriously. Not necessarily the dress code.
